‘Shards In The Earth’
“Shards In The Earth” is a short film to celebrate the release of or 30th Black Box Edition Ghost, “Poppy".
Poppy is a hand decorated English earthenware Ghost with an extemporaneous cobalt blue pattern.
It was our great privilege to collaborate with Burleigh who have been making underglaze tissue transferware since 1851.
Burleigh is the last pottery of its kind, where the finest traditions of British ceramic design and craftsmanship continue to be protected and celebrated. Its history is both rich and fascinating, and its production still requires skills and experience unique to its craftspeople.
Burleigh is also the only pottery in the world still using a traditional tissue-transfer decoration technique involving engraved copper drums, through which patterns are brought to life on ceramic.
Written by Iona Grey, read by Andrew Bloodworth & filmed by Mr Appleyard. With thanks to all at Burleigh Pottery 1851.
