Tannery Ghost event at The Guild Room

Our third production batch of 300 Tannery Ghosts will be for sale in the Guild Room at
31 St Saviourgate, York on Friday 10th July from 9am.

There will only be Tannery Ghosts to buy in the Guild Room on that day.
Recipe 03 is priced at £68 per Ghost. Strictly one per customer.

Card (no swipe cards accepted) and contactless payments only. No cash will be accepted.

Tannery Ghost boxes include the recipe number, batch, manufacture date, merchant signatory & stamp.

*** Please note there will be no other style of ghosts available in the Guild Room on this day.
The Dispensary and our shop on the Shambles will be open offering a full range of styles and designs ***

As there are a limited number of Ghosts available it is conceivable demand may outstrip supply, and people may be disappointed as a result. This is unfortunately out of our control, and we apologise in advance for and disappointment this may cause.


Step 1 – Obtaining a Ticket

Following feedback from our 2025 events we have made some slight changes to the ticketing process for our 3rd Tannery sale.

Tickets for this Tannery event will need to be obtained in advance, and not on the day as was the case last year. We are hoping by doing this that it will give an opportunity to attend for those travelling some distance and who need to make travel plans. It should also be beneficial for those who may struggle to stand or queue for a period of time……and it also means we can all have a proper night’s rest!

As before, all tickets will allow entry to the Guild Room at a specific time.

All tickets will appear on the calendar below at 6pm on 28th May 2026.

Notes

Tickets are one per person. You can only reserve one ticket per booking.
If there are several members of your group, you will all need to book separately.

Guests will be asked to enter your card details when booking so please have a credit or debit card handy (Apple Pay & Google Pay also accepted). Your card will not be charged but we are asking for everyone’s details in an attempt to reduce the number of ‘no-shows’.

In the event of a ‘no-show’ on the day of the Tannery sale we reserve the right to take a payment of £20 using the card details you provided at the time of booking.

The name and accompanying information on your booking must be correct as we will need to check all tickets before entry to the Guild Room.

As before, this event is open to anyone aged 12 or above, however anyone aged 12 – 15 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

There will be a total of 30 different timed slots to choose from, the first at 9am and the last at 4.45pm. All tickets will be issued on a first come, first served basis.

We know that queueing / standing for an extended period is a challenge for some of our guests which is why we offered dedicated accessibility appointments at our last Tannery events. However as all bookings are now being made in advance there will be no dedicated accessibility slots this time. 31 St Saviourgate is accessible so anyone with requirements should be able to book any one of the 30 different timed slots.


Step 2 – Reporting for your Timed Slot

Your booking confirmation email will admit access to the Guild Room at a specific time on Friday 10th July. Please arrive at 31 St Saviourgate 5 minutes ahead of your appointment in order to make your timed slot. i.e. If your appointment is for 09.00am please arrive at 08.55am.

Upon arrival at 31 St Saviourgate a Merchant will greet you outside and check all booking confirmations. Proof of ID may be requested. Please also ensure you have a credit or debit card with you as it will be required to make a purchase.

Please note – St Saviourgate is primarily a residential street, so we ask that guests are respectful of our neighbours and wait in an orderly fashion while outside. Please do not arrive too far in advance of your appointment to help avoid any overcrowding on the pavement outside.


Step 3 – Accessing the Guild Room

Once your email confirmation has been checked, a Merchant will escort you inside and welcome you to the Guild Room.

Please be aware that in order to ensure we give everyone the opportunity to visit, each group of 10 people will be allowed up to 10 minutes in which to make their purchase and we will be using a timer to ensure we are being transparent and fair to all.

We feel this is the fairest way of ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to buy a Ghost. The Tannery Ghost will be the only ghost available in the Guild Room on the day so hopefully 10 minutes will be adequate time for you to pick out your favourite one!

  • This Tannery Ghost will be priced at £68, the same as our second event last year.

  • Please bring a physical credit or debit card along to your appointment. We also accept Apple Pay and Google Pay.

    We are unable to accept cash.

  • The calendar on this webpage will begin to accept bookings at 6pm on Thursday 28th May 2026.

    Although tickets are free, please ensure you have a credit or debit card to hand or access to Apple Pay / Google Pay. We require your card details in order to secure your ticket (no charges will be made at this time).

  • Your card details will be kept secure and will be deleted following the sale.

    When you complete your booking form and enter your card details you will see a message saying, ‘Balance due at service: £20.00’.

    We are unable to edit that text field, and the wording could be confusing so to clarify, everyone who attends their appointments will not be charged the £20. Everyone attending will just pay the £68 for the Ghost itself, on the day using a credit / debit card or Apple / Google Pay.

    However, should you fail to attend your appointment without giving sufficient notice, or we are unable to fill your booking then we reserve the right to make a charge of £20 using the details provided with your booking.

  • Of course! You can cancel any time up to 48 hours before your appointment. Just click the ‘Edit / Reschedule / Cancel Appointment’ button embedded in your booking confirmation email.

    If it is less than 48 hours until your appointment, our booking system will stop accepting cancellations online.

    If you still need to cancel, please email office@yorkghostmerchants.com and we will cancel your appointment on your behalf, returning it to the calendar for someone else to book. If your appointment is not taken by someone else by the day of the Tannery event, we may take a payment of £20 using the card details provided at the time of booking.

  • We do not have the ability to facilitate the swapping of appointments.

    If an alternative time slot becomes available (due to a cancellation for example) you can change your booking by clicking the ‘Edit / Reschedule / Cancel Appointment’ button embedded in your booking confirmation email.

    We will be checking all bookings on the day so it is important your booking confirmation is correct and matches your ID.

  • While the ticketing system we used in 2025 worked relatively well, it did mean that some people were unable to attend. As people were required to wait in line for a ticket this unfortunately proved challenging for some guests with mobility issues. We also heard from folks who opted not to make the journey to York as they were worried about wasting a journey - travelling a considerable distance only to find all tickets had been claimed.

    We may revisit the ‘in person’ ticketing again in the future but we felt it was worth looking at an alternative system this time round.

  • We have seen an increase in ‘no-shows’ at the Guild Room and Shambles. This means a booking has been wasted which could give someone else the opportunity to visit us.

    It is hoped by asking for card details in advance it will reduce the number of no-shows.

  • You will receive an email confirming your booking shortly after submitting the form.

    If you have not received an email but believe your booking was successful, please email office@yorkghostmerchants.com so we can check your booking and resend the confirmation.

    Screenshots (or similar) of the booking form / website are not confirmation of a booking and will not be accepted on the day of the event.

  • As we have eliminated the need to queue for a ticket we feel there is no need to hold any appointments. The Guild Room is on the ground floor, is easily accessible and has adequate seating so any guests with access requirements can now choose from any of the 30 time slots available.

  • We know a lot of people never get the opportunity to visit the Guild Room so we are hoping that trying a different location this time will prove popular. The Guild Room is significantly larger than the Dispensary and gives everyone that little bit more room and gives us a different way to display our latest creation.

  • If you require someone to join you in the Guild Room then please let us know by ticking the appropriate box on the booking form.

    If you are accompanied by someone, they will not be able to purchase a Tannery Ghost unless they have a booking of their own.

  • With the exception of guide dogs, we no longer allow dogs to attend Guild Room appointments. We love dogs but the decision is out of respect to the other guests who will share your appointment.

  • Children aged 12 - 15 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

    If you require a parent or guardian to join you in the Guild Room, then please let us know when making your booking by ticking the appropriate box.

  • If you are running late and likely to miss your appointment, please call 01904 202 609 as soon as you can on the day of the event.

    We are unable to slot you in later in the day but please get in touch so we can see if we’re able to help somehow.

  • Everyone with a booking confirmation will be guaranteed of being able to take home a Tannery Ghost. There will be several on display to choose from but obviously the selection will begin to dwindle somewhat as we approach the last few appointments.

  • Hopefully everyone will be able to find a Tannery Ghost which appeals to them. However if you decide not to make a purchase on the day then we understand; there is no obligation to buy.

  • There is no waiting list for bookings. Once all slots have been taken, any cancellations will automatically be released back onto the calendar so you may wish to check back periodically to see if any have appeared.

  • There will be NO bookings held back for on-the-day ‘walk-ups’. All tickets must be purchased in advance via our website.

  • As there are a limited number of this Tannery release it is unlikely we will have any Ghosts remaining to be able to offer any exchanges.

  • In the highly unlikely event that we need to cancel, all bookings will be deleted. No customers will be charged.

  • The Tannery Ghost will be the only Ghost available to purchase on the day. We will have pin badges and tote bags to hand, however.

    The Dispensary and our shop on the Shambles will be open offering a full range of styles and designs.

  • That is no problem. They are welcome to come along with you but if they are aged under 12 then they will not be able to purchase a Ghost of their own.

    Please let us know on the booking form if you are likely to be accompanied by any children aged under 12.

    If they are aged 12 or over they may purchase a Ghost providing they have their own booking confirmation.

  • You can use a credit or debit card or Google and Apple Pay to secure your booking (no charge will be taken at this time).

    The cost of the ghost (due on the day) can also be settled by credit card, debit card, Google Pay or Apple Pay.

  • We have a guest toilet in the building but please be aware it is located on the first floor, and we have no lift access.

  • If we identify multiple bookings under the same name we will automatically delete the extra appointments. You will receive email confirmation of any cancellations.
